Hump Day Quickie: My Face is Numb!

So, I have been thinking about starting this "Hump Day Quickie" weekly/bi-weekly mini-series for a long time and I figured what better time then now? You are right, there is no better time! I am thinking when I have random thoughts on throughout the week, I will give you a quick and delicious post here and there on Wednesdays. BUM, BUM, BUMMMM, and Hump Day Quickies have been born!

Today, my quick note is about my trip to the dentist today. I needed to get a filling fixed (darn chocolate is always hurting me in various ways), so I went into the tooth hospital for the afternoon to get repaired. As I type this, I am still drooling out of my numb half of my face as we "speak." I think it is pretty funny as I have glimpsed in the mirror at myself to see I can only smile half-way and barely make out a kiss motion. There will be no selfie duck face for me today!

What I am wondering is why does this stuff last so long? I got done about an hour ago and I just want to be able to talk normal and swallow water, is that too much to ask? I am also getting up my courage for a trip to the store. I know they are going to ask me a question like "How is your day going?" or "Did you find everything okay?" and I am going to have to muster up every bit of alternate operating facial muscles to talk like I have some sense. Don't you just hate that?!

Here are a few things you should do before you head into your next appointment with the tooth warden:

  1. Take your selfie for the day if you need to.
  2. Make all the calls you need to or simply stick with texting.
  3. Run all your errands that require human interaction; especially those in your neighborhood where you see the people often enough to know you!
  4. Have an easy meal handy like soup ready and a straw for your drinks. *Make sure it is a cute one so you feel better!*
  5. Listen to them when they say you need to floss like a maniac so you don't have to deal with this misery. Just do it.
I hope you have had a great week so far and I look forward to catching up with you for these weekly, random and delicious thoughts floating through my head! Tell me what you hate about the dentist below and until next time...

Celebrate Galentine's Day with a My-Gal-Rita!

So, who here is a fan of Parks and Recreation? (Insert redheaded-girl-with-hand-up emoji here). Could you be the Leslie Knope to my Ann Perkins? Or maybe you are more of the bacon to my Ron Swanson type; either way I think we could be really breaking the ice here! And thinking back, one of the best lessons that Leslie taught me is that February 13th is the best day of the year.

That’s right; I am talking about Galentine’s Day my friends. The one day of the year reserved for the ladies to celebrate ladies in your favorite way. Leslie and her gal-pals loved to enjoy brunch and presents and I cannot think of a better way to share the love with your besties then delicious waffles to eat and drinks to clink.  Whoo hoo ovaries before brovaries (sorry boys)!!

To celebrate this wonderful holiday and show the ladies you love them in true Leslie fashion, I will be sharing my My-Gal-Rita (Margarita) recipe with you. So break out your most unique and fun margarita glasses to fill up and cheers to all the amazing things you will do together over this next year to give all the other people out there squad goals to look up to! This fruity, fun and refreshing drink will not only pair well with your favorite brunch foods it will also fill you with homemade love and happiness.

If you are like me, events like these where you can gather with all the ladies who have helped keep you sane and supported really means the world and can exponentially refresh your motivation to tackle the world. When you have friendships like Leslie and Ann do, you feel empowered to do anything you set your mind to. So, look out, Galentine’s Day is here and we shall be fierce and fueled by My-Gal-Ritas!

Galentine's Day My-Gal-Rita

Serves two!

  • 4 oz of tequila
  • 5 sweet strawberries, leaves trimmed off and cut in half
  • 4 oz sweetened lime juice mix
  • Juice from one fresh squeezed lime
  • 1 lime, cut in 4 to use for garnish
  • 3 cups of ice
  • A splash Chambord Liqueur for topping
  • Rim salt, mixed lightly with pink food coloring

  1. In a bowl, combine pink or red food coloring with rim salt and stir until combined, then set aside.
  2. Cut strawberries in half after taking the leaves on top off.
  3. Using a heart-shaped cookie cutter, press firmly into two of the halves of strawberries to make a heart shape to use for the garnish. Place the rest of the halves and leftovers into a blender.
  4. Cut one of the limes into fourths for the garnish. Cut the other lime in half and squeeze the juice into the blender.
  5. Add the tequila, sweetened lime juice mix and ice to the blender.
  6. Turn the blender on the blending setting until the mixture is smooth.
  7. Take your margarita glasses and use one of the lime wedges to run around the rim of both cups to lightly dampen it. Take the glasses and place them upside-down in the salt to create the salted rim.
  8. Pour the blended margaritas into your prepared glasses.
  9. Top the margaritas with a splash of Chambord Liqueur.
  10. Create a garnish for the glass by sticking a toothpick through the heart-shaped strawberry and adding a lime wedge underneath it. Place it in the margarita to finish it off.
  11. Enjoy with your favorite Galentine!
I hope you have an absolutely fabulous Galentine's Day with all of your best gal pals. If you have another drink that you enjoy with friends, be sure to comment below so I can test it out. Cheers!
